Give

Why to give

If you’re thinking about giving to the work of St Helen’s & St Edmund’s, thank you. As you consider that, here are a few things to think about:

God loves you, no matter what you give… and so do we!

Who you are in this world and our church family has nothing to do with how much you give financially to the church. God has created you in his image and therefore you are of incredible value. If you are a Christian he has saved you by his son’s death on the cross because he loves you. Put simply God can never love you more than he already does.

Giving is not God’s way of raising money.

As Christians we know that our God is overflowing with goodness and power and resources. He doesn’t need to use us or our money. Put simply God does not want a relationship with you because of what he can get out of it – he longs for relationship with you for your good.

So why does God tell us to give?

Giving is not about God raising funds but is one way of him raising his children. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21) this means that as we look at how we spend our money we will see what’s really important to us. But it also helps us to realise that giving is part of how we grow as disciples – if our treasures go to God’s work our hearts follow. God encourages giving to work greed and selfishness out of our lives. As we give, it develops our heart.

How to give

Regular Giving
If you can, please give by standing order. This allows us to more accurately predict what giving we will receive and to plan accordingly. Please contact us for the bank details and include your surname in the reference so your giving can be identified.
One–off Gifts

One–off gifts of whatever size can make a big difference to the ministry of a church. If you’d like to make a gift, thank you!

Leaving a Legacy in Your Will
Leaving a legacy (making a donation in your will) can have a transformative impact on the ministry of the church. Please ask your solicitor when you make or change your will, or contact our treasurer for more information.
Tax-Efficient Giving
If you pay UK tax (Income or Capital Gains Tax) then you can make donations tax efficiently. This means by completing a Gift Aid Declaration you will allow us to claim an additional 25p for every £1 you give. For more information contact our finance team.
